چکیده

The results presented are related to the prediction of the specific grinding force components. The main problems associated with the prediction capability of empirical models developed using the design of experiment (DOE) method are given. In this study an approach suggesting the combination of DOE method and artificial neural network (ANN) is developed. The inputs of the developed ANNs were selected among the factors and interaction between factors of the DOE depending on their significance at different confidence levels expressed by the value of α%. Results have shown particularly, the existence of a critical input set which improves the learning ability of the constructed ANNs. The built ANNs using these critical sets have shown low deviation from the training data and an acceptable deviation from the testing data. A high prediction accuracy of these ANNs was tested between models constructed using the developed approach and models developed by previous investigations.

Application of Statistical and Soft Computing techniques for the Prediction of Grinding Performance

Thermal load in manufacturing processes is of special interest as it is closely connected with the surface integrity and life-cycle of the finished product. Especially in grinding, heat affected zones are created due to excessive heat dissipated within the workpiece during the process. In these zones, defects are created that undermine the quality of the workpiece and as grinding is a precision...

Prediction of structural forces of segmental tunnel lining using FEM based artificial neural network

To judge about the performance of designed support system for tunnels, structural forces i.e. peak values of axial and shear forces and moments are critical parameters. So in this study, at first a complete database using finite element method was prepared. Then, a model of artificial neural network (ANN) using multi-layer perceptron was developed to estimate lining structural forces. Sensitivi...

WEAR RATE PREDICTION OF GRINDING MEDIA USING BPNN AND MLR MODELS IN GRINDING OF SULPHIDE ORES

Nowadays steel balls wear is a major problem in mineral processing industries and forms a significant part of the grinding cost. Different factors are effective on balls wear. It is needed to find models which are capable to estimate wear rate from these factors. In this paper a back propagation neural network (BPNN) and multiple linear regression (MLR) method have been used to predict wear rat...

Flow Variables Prediction Using Experimental, Computational Fluid Dynamic and Artificial Neural Network Models in a Sharp Bend

Bend existence induces changes in the flow pattern, velocity profiles and water surface. In the present study, based on experimental data, first three-dimensional computational fluid dynamic (CFD) model is simulated by using Fluent two-phase (water + air) as the free surface and the volume of fluid method, to predict the two significant variables (velocity and channel bed pressure) in 90º sharp...

Bubble Pressure Prediction of Reservoir Fluids using Artificial Neural Network and Support Vector Machine

Bubble point pressure is an important parameter in equilibrium calculations of reservoir fluids and having other applications in reservoir engineering. In this work, an artificial neural network (ANN) and a least square support vector machine (LS-SVM) have been used to predict the bubble point pressure of reservoir fluids. Also, the accuracy of the models have been compared to two-equation stat...
